VA Combined Ratings Calculator
VA math is not regular math.
Adding 30% + 20% does not equal 50% in VA world. The VA applies each rating to what's left of your “whole person.” The real number is always lower than you think.
Your disability ratings
One per conditionWhat this calculator can't do
- ·This shows what your rating should be — not what the VA assigned. If your combined rating seems wrong, request your C-file (all your VA records) and verify.
- ·Dependent rates are higher. If you have a spouse, children, or dependent parents, your monthly compensation is more than shown above.
- ·Special Monthly Compensation (SMC) applies in specific situations — loss of use of limbs, need for regular aid and attendance, and others. SMC can pay significantly more than 100%.
- ·If you think you're underrated, you can file a Supplemental Claim, Higher-Level Review, or appeal to the Board of Veterans' Appeals.

How ratings work
Full explanation at va.gov
This calculator uses the official VA combined ratings formula (38 CFR Part 4). Pay rates are 2025 estimates for a single veteran with no dependents. Always verify your actual rating and compensation at va.gov or through a VSO.
